2017 - Off To A Great Start!

2017 has already kept us very busy! Just the way we like it! :)

We had a wonderful time in California at the Road to California Quilt Show...even though it was a little too cold for our liking!

We had a lot of extra help this time around! Jenny's daughter, Brittany, was a lot of fun and even learned to sew curves and demo like a pro in no time at all!

While at Road to California, Gammill made their announcement that we will be 3 of their newest Gammill Quilt Artists! We are thrilled for this opportunity and to team up with Gammill! :)

After California Helen and Sherilyn rushed off to Logan Utah to participate in the Winter Quilt Fest.  They had so much fun teaching, sharing quilts, and most of all getting to know many more awesome quilters!

Jenny has been doing a little sprucing up around her home after getting Christmas all packed away.
How about these awesome runners for a little inspiration!

And, Helen has been making some huge changes around her home. She decided a bigger creative space is what was needed. Here is a little sample of what she's been up to.
Even her new pressing station got a significant makeover!

We have many new and exciting projects in the works. We are working on a new book and new patterns for this year!

How about a Mini Country to go along with our very popular Chic Country!?!

Here is a side by side for a little comparison! So itty bitty and adorable!! :)

And we're not quite sure what these will be but they will definitely be something!! Mannequins, dress forms, bathing suits?? Guess we'll have to wait and see! :)

We just recently surprised our mother for her 80th birthday! We agree, she does NOT look 80!! All six of her children and a daughter-in-law made it to Mesa, Arizona to surprise her! And it sure was an awesome surprise! It was so fun to be all together, even if it was just for a day!

Happy Quilting!

Road to (Sunny) California - Here We Come!

Next week is a big week for us. We are headed to sunny California for the Road to California Quilt Show.  January 19-22. We are vending and will have all of our new patterns available...

Our new block of the month pattern, Urbanologie

and, Mod Pineapples, which happens to be one of the two classes we are teaching. The other class is Mini Kites.

We look forward to being together once again and to, hopefully, seeing many of you there, booth 816/818.

Its been so fun to see many Mod Ornaments (free pattern) completed on IG.  We wanted to share a few of them.

They are just beautiful!! Nice job everyone!

And, each one of us made a few for Christmas gifts. To say the least, we each had a lot of fun with this great pattern!

We are off to a great start for the new year and hope all of you are as well!

Happy Quilting!:)

Tuesday Tip - Hanging Sleeve

Our Mod Owls wishes everyone a very Happy New Year!!
These owls are stunning, dressed in gorgeous Island Batik Fabrics!

As this quilt needed a hanging sleeve, we decided to share a picture tutorial for hanging sleeves.

Begin with an 8 1/2 inch wide piece of fabric. The sleeve should fit right inside the binding edges.

Simply lay the strip on the back of the quilt with one edge just inside the binding and cut the other edge an inch beyond the inside of the binding.

The extra inch allows for a double 1/4 inch folded hem on each end. Stitch each hem.

Press the strip in half, lengthwise with wrong sides together.

Then open and press each lengthwise edge into the middle.

Sew the raw edges together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Carefully press this seam open without pressing out the original side pressed folds.

Pin the sleeve to the back of quilt, within the binding and about a 1/2 inch from the top binding.

Secure the sleeve with a few pins where the pressed folds are. There should be a pucker in the top of sleeve to allow for the hanging bar.

Secure sleeve with a hidden stitch.  These stitches are quite large.  This doesn't need to be too neat or fancy.  Just securing it is the object here.

And there you have it, your hanging sleeve - just that simple! :)

We experienced comfort and joy over the holidays and hope you did too!

It's back to work for us here at Sew Kind of Wonderful and looking forward to our upcoming trip to Cali for Road to California! Yay! Hope to see many of you there! :)

Happy Quilting!
